For years, whenever the IT industry was referred to in both Telugu states, Hyderabad promptly popped up in everyone's mind. The narrative is shifting, however. Andhra Pradesh is slowly being referred to as one of the high-tech development areas of the IT industry in the wonderful city of Visakhapatnam. Since the new government took over, the port city is experiencing tremendous IT-related progress, buoyed by the interest shown by almost all IT giants and data centre providers from across the world.

Thus, Visakhapatnam emerges as the port-city beacon of IT revolution in Andhra Pradesh.

It is an era waiting for Visakhapatnam with growth demands. The Cooperation witnessed the foundation laying ceremony for Cognizant campus and eight more IT companies. The foundation stone laying ceremony was held in the presence of the Honorable Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, and the IT Minister, Nara Lokesh. These projects are other strong indicators of the government’s commitment to create a technology-driven economy.

The openings will help in the next three vars to generate thousands of jobs, thereby increasing employment prospects for the local youth and reinforcing the location's IT ecosystem.

The City’s Growth Lies in Infrastructure

With investments considered to be going all the way in, experts contend that having strong underpinning of infrastructure can be the only cement to keep the momentum of the IT engine blazing in Vizag. As a need of the day, improved parking facilities, modernized bus facilities, wider roads, and multiple flyovers are increasingly needed.

To extend the benefits of well-connected rail connectivity to locations like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata, it becomes attractive. The perpetual need of the region is upgrading Duvvada and Gopalapatnam railway station capacities and the need to make both the Visakhapatnam Airport and Bhogapuram International Airport functional to support the city's IT dreams.

Data Centers Create Hi-Tech Opportunities

The presence of data centre players such as Google, Meta, and Reliance can turn Visakhapatnam into a high-speed digital hub. Due to the existence of the undersea cables and landing stations near the city, ultra-fast internet connectivity would be at its disposal.

This digital backbone is expected to draw AI-based startups, cloud service providers, and advanced technology companies. It would also help in building skills among the youth that are aligned with future-ready industries in the region.

Cognizant Campus Places Vizag on the Map of Global IT.

The laying of the foundation stone for Cognizant's permanent campus is indeed a decade-changing moment for the city. In his address, the Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, stated that the city would soon emerge as the knowledge economy's key hub and that the government was actively working to nurture it into a separate economic region.

Cognizant has already established large facilities in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, and Kolkata. The company contributes to various industries—life sciences, financial services, and digital transformation—totaling nearly 250,000 geeks working in India—exactly what India's calling card for global IT might look like.

From Infosys to Google: Vizag's IT Map Broadens

Visakhapatnam is showing brisk growth in its IT presence. Infosys, negotiating for either 20 acres of land near Endada to set up a permanent campus, has been operating from a temporary office at IT Hills.

Also, setting up a data centre in Visakhapatnam is nearly underway for Google with another line of Reliance and SIFY being expected to build data centres of about 100,000 square feet each. TCS and Accenture are immediately moving into temporary campuses to take that forward for their final home.

With all of these strides, Visakhapatnam is now evolving into Andhra Pradesh's very own Hi-Tech City, a testimony to the benchmark being set by the state in India's technology landscape.
